About
Andrew Alden

Obscura Broadcasting Company (OBC) is a multimedia collective examining what it means to create for social change. OBC embraces the creativity of the collaborative process to bring diverse stories to online and live audiences.

Andrew Alden is an Emmy-nominated and internationally recognized, award-winning filmmaker and composer from Vermont. He is the founder of Obscura Broadcasting Company, which he established in Detroit in 2016. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he earned a degree in composition, Andrew's work has been showcased nationally and internationally—on NBC, Bloomberg, and PBS, as well as at La MaMa Experimental Theatre, the Detroit Institute of Arts, MIT, Nuit Blanche Paris, and more.

As a director of symphonic broadcasts, he has collaborated with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Handel + Haydn Society, and the Metropolitan Opera Musicians, working with artists such as John Williams, Terence Blanchard, Brian Blade, and Regina Carter. He is also the founder of the Andrew Alden Ensemble, a contemporary chamber group that blends classical and electronic elements to create innovative live scores for films.

His feature film Dangerous Creation, an internationally recognized and award-winning work, examines racial tensions, privilege, and ethical responsibility against the backdrop of human ambition and radicalization. His upcoming film Meadowlark explores themes of fatherhood, expanding his body of work as both a director and composer. Alden has been an Artist in Residence at the University of Illinois, Champaign, twice, further cementing his impact in both film and music. Andrew is currently pursuing his masters of fine arts at Vermont College of Fine Arts at CalArts.
