Dark Water and Horror

Last night we watched Hideo Nakata's Dark Water (2002) and I was blown away. I have been afraid of horror since I was a kid and even as an adult I was still very afraid of the anxiety of watching a horror movie. I think that was why we decided to make our horror movie Dangerous Creation. Making a horror movie required a lot of research and we watched countless horror movies and documentaries. I got to revisit movies like The Shining (1980), Psycho (1960), Alien (1979), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and more. I had avoided movies like The Exorcist (1973), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), The Conjuring (2013) and The Changeling (1980) because of the anxiety of watching them. While watching these movies for research, I thought I had gotten over the fear, however last night Dark Water completely destroyed me. I was covering my eyes and ears and my anxiety up to 100%. As anxiety-provoking as it was, it was inspiring to think about the different camera angles, the way he built tension, and the sound was amazing. In the process of making our movie, we learned a lot which we will detail soon but it's inspiring to get scared by a movie with all the anxiety in the world.

Dark Waters is available on Amazon Prime and physically by Arrow.
